Kirchenbuch
The following copies of four pages from the Nieder-Monjou church book (Kirchenbuch) were provided by Georgy Niedecker. As is the usual case for old German church records, names and locations were written in Latin characters with the remainder of the information written in the old German gothic script. These pages provide an interesting glimpse into life in the colony during this period.

This page is from the 1814 baptism register (Tauf-Register) of the Nieder-Monjou church book. The ending "in" or "en" added to the end of a surname denotes that the person is female. The practice of adding the "in" or "en" is not very common but can also sometimes be found in German church records from Germany. The added "in" or "en" does not permanently change the surname. |
