Kirchenbuch

The following copies of four pages from the Nieder-Monjou church book (Kirchenbuch) were provided by Georgy Niedecker. As is the usual case for old German church records, names and locations were written in Latin characters with the remainder of the information written in the old German gothic script. These pages provide an interesting glimpse into life in the colony during this period.

Nieder-Monjou kirchenbuch 1814 This page is from the 1814 baptism register (Tauf-Register) of the Nieder-Monjou church book. The ending "in" or "en" added to the end of a surname denotes that the person is female. The practice of adding the "in" or "en" is not very common but can also sometimes be found in German church records from Germany. The added "in" or "en" does not permanently change the surname.
Nieder-Monjou kirchenbuch 1820 This page is from the 1820 death register (Todten-Register) of the Nieder-Monjou church book. Again the feminine ending "in" or "en" has been used.
Nieder-Monjou kirchenbuch 1820/25 This page is from the 1820/1825 baptism register (Tauf-Register) of the Nieder-Monjou church book. The first part of the page is known to be from 1820. The last entry in this page is dated 1825. Again the feminine ending "in" or "en" has been used.
Nieder-Monjou today number three This page is from the baptism register (Tauf-Register) of the Nieder-Monjou church book. It is believed to date from ca 1835.
